Chapter 1
Jan 27, 2026
Growing up I remember tiptoeing. I was always tiptoeing through life, through the living room, through his room. I don’t know how long I wasn’t allowed to go outside but I remember always looking out those big windows.
I remember warm hands that used to hold me and smiles from blurry faces. My parents were something I’d lost. My memory was something that slipped through my fingers. At a young age, I didn’t try to think about them. I was too worried about my new surroundings, my new… home. If you could call it that.
I told myself to stay away from people and not to touch anything that wasn’t mine. I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. I was too scared to wish for anything knowing it was selfish. Selfish to think, selfish to wish, selfish to want, selfish to dream.
I made sure to stick to myself and never look up at the owners of the house. I avoided guests and only appeared when called on. My hands hurt, my feet were sore, and my back hurt from leaning forward all the time but I wouldn’t cry. If I cried then it would feel like I lost. I wouldn’t lose.
I was needed in the kitchen and with every step I took, I winced from the pain I felt shooting up my legs. I hurried to prepare the food. I had someone to work with I first arrived but after they trained me they disappeared and everything fell on me.
The first time I was taken to the house, a little girl ran up to me and gripped my hands. I remember her excitement like we would be sisters. I knew… I already knew I wasn’t here for play but for work.
“Why won’t she look at me?” She asked.
He had a hand on my shoulder. His grip is hard and painful.
“She’s our new worker and will be working with Liza,” he said in the kindest voice. I didn’t hear it in the car. I didn’t know he was capable of kindness. “You will not play with the help. Do you understand Diana?”
Her hands let go of mine and fell to her sides.
“Okay, Daddy,” she murmured, sadness leaking from her voice.
“That’s a good girl,” he said to her.
“Follow me,” he growled.
I followed him through the big room, past the kitchen, and up the stairs. He showed me to a room that was small but perfect.
“This is your room,” he said.
My eyes widened as I looked around the room. There was a bed in the corner, a bed stand, and a light. I spotted a few books on top of the bed stand and fire bloomed in my chest. Hope. Hope that they would be mine.
“Thank you, Alpha,” I whispered, bowing my head and dropping my eyes to the floor. He left without another word.

It was long blonde hair that I remembered seeing as I walked with my head bowed. Blonde hair swung in the wind as I kept my eyes on the ground. Blonde hair I saw along with a white cloth that wiped at my knees dripping blood as I tried to pick up the pieces of the glass plate I dropped. Blonde hair that came close by me and promised it was okay as I scrambled to scoop up the food I’d just wasted.
I only had three rules. Keep my head down, keep my eyes on the ground, and please my Alpha. I always keep my eyes down, I never lift my head. Tears blurred my vision as I stared at the mess I’d made. Alpha would not be pleased, he wouldn’t be pleased. Not one bit. His dinner lay sprawled all over the floor and he was going to be home soon.
My fingers started to tremble and shake as I tried earnestly to pick up the broccoli and scoop up the glass-filled mashed potatoes. Tears escaped and fell to the ground, my arms.
She was there. She leaned over and squeezed my arm. I was still, unsure of what she wanted, what she would say.
“Don’t worry,” she whispered. “Don’t cry,” she said and her voice filled with emotion I wasn’t sure I could place.
The door flew open as Alpha walked through the front door. I could hear the bang as the door hit against the wall. His footstep made their way through the living room to the kitchen and I held my breath.
“SLAVE!” He yelled. He was calling me and the tremor grew violent as I looked down at the blood-smeared food in my hands.
I scrambled to get up when the hand on my arm tightened and I was pulled back down onto my knees. I flinched as glass dug deeper.
“I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “I didn’t mean to…” She released my arm and stood up. “I demand you stay here. Don’t come out unless he calls you.”
I freeze. Not daring to breathe or move as I listen to her walk into the front where he sat. “Where is she?” He asks, his voice lighter as he sees his pup.
“I pushed her and your food fell to the ground. I’m sorry daddy,” she murmured, “I’ll order us some pizza. Is that okay?”
Silence.
“Did you punish her?” He growled.
Silence again.
“Yes,” she said quietly.
“Speak up when you answer me,” he said firmly.
“Yes, Daddy. I punished her. She’s going to clean the blood up and get out of our site for the rest of the night. I want to spend time with you. You’ve been busy with work you haven’t had any time for me,” she moped.
He let out a breath and I felt my shoulders relax slightly.
Thank Goddess.
I clean up the mess I made and wiped the blood from the floor before I Clorox it and dried it down. I could hear their conversation in the other room as I grabbed a handful of paper towels. I slid upstairs careful not to bleed onto the carpet.
Thank Goddess.
No, not the Goddess.
Thank you, Diana.
For the first time I could remember, I smiled.
