The Offer
“You won’t believe what just happened!” Claire burst into the room, her eyes wide with excitement.
Amber, who had been sipping her herbal tea, raised a brow at her best friend. “Is this about your love life again?” she teased, setting her cup down.
Claire rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the blush creeping up her cheeks. “No, but close! Beta Logan has an offer for you.”
Amber blinked. “For me?”
“Yes! Come with me!” Claire grabbed her wrist and practically dragged her out of the cottage before Amber could protest.
“Wait, wait—what kind of offer are we talking about?” Amber asked, digging her heels into the ground. She wasn’t a fan of surprises.
Claire just grinned. “You’ll see.”
Amber sighed but allowed herself to be led through the pack house corridors, nodding at familiar faces as they passed. As the daughter of the pack’s most renowned matchmakers, she was well-respected—if not a little feared—for her ability to bring soulmates together.
When they arrived at Logan’s office, Claire knocked once before pushing the door open.
The Beta, was standing near his desk, arms crossed over his broad chest, his sharp eyes locking onto Amber the second she stepped inside. “Ah, Amber. There you are.”
Amber tilted her head, studying him. “I hear you have an offer for me.”
Logan chuckled. “Something like that.” He turned to Claire and took her hand, lacing their fingers together. “First off, I want to thank you. Your matchmaking skills are the reason Claire and I are together.”
Amber smiled warmly. “It wasn’t exactly magic, Beta. You two were already drawn to each other. I just gave Claire the push she needed.”
Logan nodded. “Even so, I feel like I owe you something.”
Amber waved a dismissive hand. “There’s no need. My job is to help wolves find their mates. Seeing you both happy is enough payment.”
Logan’s lips twitched. “I figured you’d say that. But I still have an offer for you.”
Amber narrowed her eyes. “What kind of offer?”
He leaned against his desk. “How would you feel about matchmaking for the Alpha?”
Silence.
Amber stared at him, wondering if she had misheard. “I’m sorry… What?”
Logan smirked. “You heard me. The Alpha needs a mate, and he wants your help.”
Amber’s mouth opened, then closed. “Which Alpha?” she asked slowly, as if making sure she wasn’t losing her mind.
Logan’s smirk deepened. “Our Alpha.”
Amber gasped.
Alpha Damon Blackwood. The strongest, most intimidating wolf in their pack. A man who didn’t believe in soulmates, let alone matchmaking. The very reason why their paths have never crossed yet.
And he wanted her help?
Her heartbeat spiked. “You’re joking,” she breathed.
He chuckled. “I assure you, I’m not.”
Amber let out a stunned laugh. “This is insane. Alpha Damon doesn’t believe in matchmaking.”
“He doesn’t,” Logan agreed. “But he needs a mate. And you’re the best matchmaker in the pack.”
Amber shook her head.
Logan exhaled. “Let’s just say… circumstances have made it necessary.”
Amber frowned. “What circumstances?”
He hesitated, then shook his head. “That’s for the Alpha to tell you himself.”
Amber inhaled sharply, trying to process everything. “So, let me get this straight. You’re asking me to matchmake Alpha Damon, the same Alpha who scoffs at fated mates and romance?”
Logan nodded. “That’s exactly what I’m asking.”
Amber’s fingers twitched. This was a disaster waiting to happen. She had spent years helping others find love, but the idea of finding a mate for someone who didn’t even believe in the process?
Impossible.
She took a step back. “I don’t know about this, Beta.”
Claire touched her arm. “Amber, you’ve helped so many wolves find their mates. Maybe you can help the Alpha, too.”
Amber chewed on her lower lip. “What if he rejects every match I suggest?”
Logan smirked. “That’s where the challenge comes in.”
Amber crossed her arms. “And what happens if I fail?”
Logan’s smirk faded, replaced by something more serious. “Then the Alpha remains unmated, and our pack stays vulnerable.”
Amber stilled. “Vulnerable?”
Logan hesitated again. “Like I said, it’s the Alpha’s story to tell.”
Amber let out a slow breath. “And what if I refuse?”
Logan’s gaze met hers. “Then you’d be refusing a direct request from the Alpha.”
Amber swallowed hard. She looked between him and Claire, both of them watching her expectantly. She had spent years matchmaking, bringing others together. But never had she faced a challenge like this.
Could she really do it?
Could she find a mate for the Alpha of the pack?
She exhaled sharply, her heart pounding. “Well,” she muttered, rubbing her temples. “I don’t much have of a choice, don’t I?”
